As head of the Braun Design Department, what are your principal responsibilities?
We are a small group of just 23 people, of whom eight are designers. Everyone has clearly defined tasks and objectives. We're like the crew of a racing yacht. Everyone has their post and knows what they have to do. But there is quite a different essential: if our department's work is to be worthwhile, it needs people who are prepared to stand up for their own ideas and not simply give way to others. At times this might be a contradiction: you need strong people who are really team players at the same time and who are ready to make a contribution. I have the task of ensuring that this relationship founded on tension is as productive as possible.
